During my time at the writing center, I tutored and assisted peers in literacy concepts, such as grammar, punctuation, and spelling, aiding students in the correction of formatting errors in regard to APA, MLA, and Chicago style especially. I made recommendations and presented students with the necessary sources to continue to make progress and improvements on their own. I also learned better, unique teaching strategies for ESL students and disabled students.

In this role, I worked with children from preschool through 8th grade, aged 2-13, to ensure a welcoming and inclusive learning environment for students. I accomplished this through being an encouraging and supportive resource to them and their homeroom teachers. I instructed student behavior and implemented consequences for misbehavior whenever necessary, clearing communicating what was expected of each child. I tutored and assisted students and teachers within a variety of subjects and age groups.

During my time with Carroll Reads, I tutored and assisted children individually or in small groups to help them master reading and writing assignments. I reinforced learning concepts presented by classroom teachers through engaging activities to help the students better understand the materials. I discussed students’ assigned duties and goals with classroom leaders, coordinating instructional efforts to best reach each individual personally. I also observed students’ performances and recorded relevant data to assess their progress, communicating with teachers and assessing the students’ improvements together.
