I developed my knowledge and understanding of land management through undertaking practical conservation and land management work. This role is highly variable but has several core purposes within the role:• Responsible for managing and implementing the work programme to achieve the projects outputs and training.• Work closely with a range of project partners including academics, landowners, environmental charities, government organisations, volunteers, contractors, naturalists and local residents, to understand conservation and access challenges and opportunities to help co-develop practical solutions.• Deliver practical conservation projects including the collection and analysis of local ecology to produce reports informing future land management plans for project partners. I also received internal training courses on livestock management, livestock welfare checking and wildlife legislation, with shadowing opportunities alongside the education team.My main responsibilities within this role included:~ Practical habitat and site management on heathland, grassland, woodland and wetland.~ Co-organise and lead groups of practical conservation volunteers.~ Assist with preparation of interpretative material and site signs.~ Assist with aspects of grazing, including fencing, moving cattle and stock checking.~ Assist with large Wildlife Trust events.My time spent in this role was reduced due to the Covid-19 Pandemic. A significant proportion of my role involved camera trapping, which would help to identify Scottish wildcat populations and identify their boundaries and territories. I assisted with the general maintenance of Highland Titles Nature Reserve and assisted in tree planting, fauna and flora ID and enclosure maintenance and modification. In this position I had to met the specific demands of the customers which involved taking special orders and prepare their orders accordingly, and this allowed me to gain basic skills involving woodwork.
