Little Pend Oreille National Wildlife Refuge

•-Conducted surveys of quaking aspen (P. tremuloides) stands to get a baseline inventory of the refuge before Sudden Aspen Decline (SAD) hits that region.•-Used infrared satellite imagery on ArcGIS to locate aspen stands on the refuge.•-Collected data such as DBH, canopy density, stem class counts, and photo points of stands.•-Located showy milkweed (A. speciosa) patches on the refuge using ecosystem information.•-Collected data such as population, flowering v. nonflowering, invasive species, and monarch presence.-•Entered all collected data into an Access database and Excel file for an ongoing project.•-Used GPS with ArcPad in order to collect data points.•-Banded Canada geese on the refuge and collected species and age data as part of a Washington Department of Fish and Game project.-Taught local 5th graders about the flora and fauna on the refuge during an annual field trip to LPO.•-Assisted in collecting data during electrofishing sessions in Bear Creek on the refuge to get population data.•-Assisted with the placement of pearl mussel chambers in Bear Creek as part of a project that compares the water quality to a known polluted water source.•-Set up game cameras and lures to capture videos and pictures of various wildlife on the refuge.

Gulf Islands National Seashore

-Located and monitored snowy plover nests on Pensacola Beach.-Buffered nesting zones.-Input of morning bird survey data into an excel database.-Analyzed trail camera photos for frames showing predation of eggs.-Added new speed limit signs and poles to minimize chick fatality on roadways.

Blackwater River State Forest

-Assisted with sunrise surveys to assess which cavities were occupied.-Artificial cavity maintenance.-Used a peeper-scope to get a visual of what was inside each cavity.-Used ArcPad to collect data on trees within clusters and to locate them.-Inserted new artificial cavities into qualifying trees/clusters-Prepared clusters for prescribed burning by removing any brush from around the base of the tree.-Searched for nests and monitored them.-Banded nestlings at nine days old.-Flying squirrel evictions from cavities.

-Studied the impacts that elephants have on the flora and fauna of a savanna ecosystem by comparing results from areas with elephants and areas where they are absent.-Used Sherman traps to obtain various information and measurements of small mammals.-Recorded flora information around each trap.-Took measurements and observations of flora for monitoring purposes.-Placed trail cameras.-Sunrise bird surveys.-Input of daily data.-Analysis and presentation of data at the end of the project.
