Profile bio

About Savannah E.

Like most educators, my career journey started with an inspirational teacher. By that point, I had already developed a love of learning which evolved into the skills necessary to drive my own talent development and career growth. Now, I am an adept and versatile adult with a competitive edge in today’s workforce. I pursued a career in learning and development after realizing that not everyone shares the same background. Self-driven learning is a skill; if you only had negative experiences with education, why would you pick it up? Even seeking an instructor can be a challenge. Professional development is not always accessible and can often miss the mark for neurodiverse or underrepresented groups. This creates barriers and leads to imbalanced, unequal opportunities. That’s why I take an equitable approach to learning and development. I place inclusive instructional design at the forefront of all of my endeavors. I am a champion of psychological safety in the workplace and normalizing the conversation around being new at something. Everyone deserves positive learning experiences which reward curiosity and taking chances on something new. I aim to empower employees to take their development journey into their own hands so that they can continue to expand their portfolio of diverse skills and interests beyond my training.

Learning & Development Specialist

I am extremely proud to be one of the very first L&D hires at Zenni. It gives me the opportunity to take the company’s mission of “Eyewear for Everyone” as the accessibility statement that it is and incorporate those values directly into the way we design our learning programs.I knew I was a good fit for Zenni when my interview turned into a casual conversation toward the end, and one of the hiring managers asked me: “Do you believe things happen for a reason?”It was a loaded question for an interview, but I understood where it came from. I had just been explaining why I applied to work with an online eyewear retailer instead of remaining in public education: I was familiar with Zenni and its mission, a struggle I relate to as a glasses-wearer, and I wanted to take a chance on trying something different. I didn’t know if Zenni customer service was going to be what I wanted long-term, and I was candid about my desire to explore opportunities with other departments at the company while gaining a sense of my career path. I don’t know if things happen for a reason, but I am forever grateful that they happened the way they did. Zenni has award-winning customer service for a reason: they are a group of caring and driven individuals who believe wholeheartedly in the company’s mission, vision, and values. The company experienced unprecedented growth in 2019 and 2020, and with that came growing pains. The way we managed information, content, and learning opportunities as a small team in an office was no longer suitable for a large remote team. I’m proud of the many projects and experiences I’ve had with Zenni, spending a little time working on almost every customer service process our team offers, and the way I have taken those experiences to pave a path forward for efficient and effective learning solutions and content management.

Library Technician Ii

Salinas, California Area

As only the second Library Technician to work at Harden Middle School since its opening, I knew that I had big shoes to fill, but I was excited by the opportunity to build something new and take on this challenge for my career.I am proud to have introduced new programs to the students, including the school's first Scholastic Book Fair and several themed contests and activities to promote reading engagement. I also modernized the catalog, updated our online database, then tagged and labeled the books to match current standards for appropriate reading levels. I also created a scheduling system for teachers to book library appointments online and helped organize a weekly homework club.

Library And Instructional Technology Specialist

Library and Instructional Technology Specialist, also known as LITS, was a hybrid role created by the Gonzales Unified School District's technology department to help bridge the digital divide for our students. Each school in the district had a dedicated LITS, and I am proud to have worked with the wonderful students and staff of Fairview Middle School.I collaborated with the other members of the technology team and some very dedicated teachers to introduce the district's first EdTech committee. The goal of the committee was this: to go beyond simply implementing technology in the classroom by facilitating digital citizenship and literacy for our students, upskilling our staff, and making the internet accessible to the entire city of Gonzales. I contributed significantly to this effort by onboarding hundreds of Chromebooks for the district so that each student had their own dedicated computer for schoolwork, but my biggest impact was likely in the job aids I created and the time I spent training teachers on introducing educational technology to their students and using it in a classroom environment.

Aug 2016 - Sep 2018

Sales Associate

I worked at Staples during summer break while in college to help cover expenses and gain some work experience. I'm so glad I took the leap! Although it was my first step into the workforce, the management team gave me plenty of opportunities to learn and develop essential job skills. I worked both opening and closing shifts, balanced registers, spent time on the sales floor, worked on inventory management, and took on projects with both the Tech and Copy Services team, resulting in a well-rounded retail experience in only four months.
