In September 2021, I discovered the true purpose of my work.I had the opportunity to write a Storytelling Guide for a woman dedicated to empowering BIPOC individuals to take charge of their financial wellbeing.I smiled at her sporadically through our Zoom screen as I furiously took notes and asked more questions. She shared her experiences, including the early realization that the world is not designed to support black and brown individuals like her. Her commitment was palpable as she described her relentless pursuit of education and skills at a prestigious institution so she could gain the skills and knowledge to help people just like her.After our hour-and-a-half session, I sat at my computer, meticulously piecing together her story into a cohesive narrative. As our next meeting approached, I felt a mix of anxiety and excitement. Our stories are deeply personal; being let into someone's story is a privilege I’ll never take lightly. There’s no single “right” way to write a story; it’s about distilling possibilities into honest words on a page.When the time came for our revision call, my voice shook initially, but as I continued, my nervousness transformed into joy. I could sense how my words resonated with her story, creating something meaningful and authentic. We had crafted it together.In my anxiety, I didn’t look at her Zoom square even once until I'd finished reading. When I finally looked up, I saw tears of joy in her eyes. She felt seen and understood; everything made sense to her within those paragraphs. Her face relaxed into the beauty and clarity of a story she hadn’t known existed until I brought it to life.In that moment, my calling became clear: to empower you to step boldly into your unique purpose so that you can lead who you're meant to inspire.
