Working within a small team, duties include day to day care of a variety of animals, such as ponies, alpacas, goats, pigs, llamas, donkeys, sheep, ducks, chickens and a variety of small pets. Responsibilities within this include feeding, health checking, cleaning of enclosures, handling and occasional medical treatments of any and all animals. In addition to this, I also facilitate animal handling sessions with the general public, ensuring animal welfare and visitor safety whilst delivering informative handling and animal information. Seasonal duties also include running children's activities for the public, facilitating lamb bottle feeding with the public and delivering park tours whilst giving talks on various animals around the farm.

During my time within the Field Science and Conservation team, I had the amazing opportunity to both conduct and assist with a wide range of various research projects and tasks. These were spread out amongst the vast range of specialties within the team, including:- Investigating the factors influencing breeding program success- Research into the effectiveness of behaviour change campaigns- Cheetah behavioural studies- Conservation in social mediaThe total range work I have undertaken here has enabled me to learn and improve skills in literature searching, time management, ZIMS, GIS, and even library management - with additional skills in team working, meeting new people, networking and independent working also being improved.Alongside this, I had the opportunity to assist with various outdoor education sessions facilitated by the Avon Gorge and Downs Project, enhancing my ability to tailor my work as appropriate for the audience.

Madagascar

For two weeks, I volunteered as a research assistant for Operation Wallacea, at their terrestrial research sites in the Mahamavo region of Madagascar. Although it was only for a short period of time, I gained an immense amount of fieldwork experience, as well as a life changing insight into the Madagascan culture and way of life. Whilst volunteering, I had the opportunity to partake in a number of ecological surveys, including:- Behavioural research into the Coquerel's sifaka - Lemur counts- Herpetological point counts and Hognose tracking- Invertebrate capture - spiders, butterflies and other insects- Wetland bird surveys, bird point counts and mist netting- Crocodile countsThese experiences allowed me to learn a vast array of practical skills and put them into practice, as well as learning the theory behind the research and general work done in Madagascar from the academic staff. The challenging setting also proved to be an invaluable life lesson - from dealing with illness in a foreign setting, an increased amount of physical activity through rough forest and terrain, high temperatures, no access to the outside world and extremely basic living condition, I learnt a lot about myself and my outlook on life.

Brackenhurst Campus

My role as the Senior Residence Assistant for my campus encompasses a wide variety of features, however I am primarily tasked with helping to ensure the welfare of students living on campus, by making sure they feel fully supported with all aspects of living away from home. I do this whilst helping to manage the team of three other residence assistants, which includes working out rotational duties and encouraging the team to work together. To do this, myself and my team aim to create a sense of community within the accomodation, providing activities, information and support to the students. We work on a rotational basis and with the Accommodation team, NTU Warden team and on site security to provide 24/7 services such as:- On call support for of 6pm-8am on weekdays and 6pm Friday - 8am Monday on weekends.- Flatmate mediation.- University and Hall information distribution.- Point of contact for advice, guidance and support.- Signposting to further support.We also have an active role during University events such as Welcome/Fresher's week, student arrival in halls, open days and other information fairs.

The role of team leader at NTSU Costa Coffee - Brackenhurst Orangery entails a variety of different tasks. These include:-Serving food and drinks to a high standard approved by Costa Coffee.-Preparing fresh produce.-Stock management - date rotations, waste management.-Maintaining a high standard of hygeine.-Cash handling throughout the day.-Customer service - high level of interaction with the public during the day.-Opening up at the start of the day.-Closing down and cashing up at the end of the day.-Helping to train new members of staff.

During the summer months, I had a 0 hours opportunity to help out within the administration team of the surgery whenever necessary. This included scanning in important paperwork to the online medical system - SystmOne, managing the filing and organisation of this paperwork and ensuring it was then transferred to the relevant person. Managing the filing system was also one of my roles, when patient files were returned I would be in charge of assigning them to the correct area, and also removing files for use. Day to day duties may vary, with general office duties being undertaken when necessary, such as removal of confidential waste, customer service, compiling, franking and sorting of mail and liaising with staff. This job allowed me to experience using a dedicated computer system, as well as working in a confidential environment with both staff and members of the public.

Working for Lush Cosmetics has enabled me to experience a wide range of roles. Shifts may include: - Serving on the tills, ensuring customers know how to use their items and also informing them of any extra promotions we may be running. - Working on the shop floor, providing detailed consultations for customers to find them the most suitable products or gifts.- Assisting the stock team to ensure the shop floor is fully stocked with products that have been counted, batched and checked.This work requires a large background knowledge of the ethics, policies and ingredients used by Lush. It also requires an enthusiasm for the company and the work, to ensure customers receive the high standards associated with Lush during the busy Christmas period.
