Assessment Leadership Academy - GraduateWasc Senior College And University Commission Mar 2015 - Jan 2016This select Academy has trained a generation of Assessment Professionals throughout the western region and beyond, led by the two best known scholars and practitioners of assessment, Amy Driscoll & Mary Allen. The Academy pedagogy integrated theories of adult learning with active pedagogies for ongoing engagement using readings, case studies, project-based learning, problem solving, collaborative learning, role play, and simulations. Participants used their home institutions as a context for practice and learning. In addition to the project for our own institution, each participant evaluated the assessment practices at another institution. Regional and national assessment leaders enriched the curriculum through readings, in-person lectures, interactions, and one-on-one consultations. The Academy curriculum included both structured and institutionally-tailored learning activities that addressed the full spectrum of assessment issues and places those issues in the national context of higher education policy on educational quality, accreditation, and accountability. The 11-month intense learning experience was challenging, invigorating, and developed a valuable new network of assessment professionals and new colleagues I already rely upon. -
