The Academic Assessment Council is a University body made up of the College Assessment Coordinators, Representatives from CELT, CAB, Institutional Research, the Graduate School, and the Dean of Undergraduate Education. Additional members can be added on a temporary or ad hoc basis. The AAC meets regularly, year-round and works on various tasks and activities supporting program assessment, including but not limited to:--Provide Leadership, oversight/guidance and coordination for campus assessment activity and related processes such as 5-year program reviews, WASC, other--Advocate for the value of continuous, meaningful assessment as it relates to program, college and university academic and strategic priorities--Contribute to a culture assessment by engaging in ongoing campus-wide conversations on the nature of student learning assessment and its relationship to effective teaching, learning, and advising--Develop, maintain and make available assessment information: digital, website, handbook, tutorials, workshops, etc.--Ensure support mechanisms available for assessment work and improvement--Promote the assessment work and reporting cycle and highlight assessment related outcomes or practices

Responsible for leading two academic programs, Communication Sciences & Disorders and Communication Studies, with 13 full-time, 25 part-time, 12 Graduate Teaching Associates, 5 Graduate Assistants, serving over 300 Majors, 40 Graduate students, and over 2000 students per year in General Education courses. The Department Chair is elected to manage and administer the regular functions of the department, working collaboratively with staff and faculty, ensuring all personnel are well supported in their individual and collective instructional, research, professional and service related assignments. Main areas of responsibilities include: Administration, Planning, Leadership & Mentoring, Representation, Budget and Personnel.

Coordinate the Graduate program in Communication Studies, including recruitment, socialization, support and graduation of all incoming students; facilitate curriculum development and revision; conduct assessment; facilitate comprehensive exam process each spring; advise all current graduate students, encourage student scholarly activity and presentation, represent program on CSUC Graduate Council.

Facilitate assessment activity and reporting across the seven departments, LBST, and the School of Education, Represent CME in the Academic Assessment Council, Provide support, training, and information as needed.

Facilitate and coordinate program processes such as Advising & Articulation, Curriculum Development, Program Faculty Meetings, Program Assessment, Teaching Schedules, Hiring Plans, Chair CMST Advisory Board (12/13, 13/14, 14/15), Chair CMST Search Committee (13/14, 14/15), Adviser to Students of Communication Studies, Adviser to Lambda Pi Eta Honor Society.

This select Academy has trained a generation of Assessment Professionals throughout the western region and beyond, led by the two best known scholars and practitioners of assessment, Amy Driscoll & Mary Allen. The Academy pedagogy integrated theories of adult learning with active pedagogies for ongoing engagement using readings, case studies, project-based learning, problem solving, collaborative learning, role play, and simulations. Participants used their home institutions as a context for practice and learning. In addition to the project for our own institution, each participant evaluated the assessment practices at another institution. Regional and national assessment leaders enriched the curriculum through readings, in-person lectures, interactions, and one-on-one consultations. The Academy curriculum included both structured and institutionally-tailored learning activities that addressed the full spectrum of assessment issues and places those issues in the national context of higher education policy on educational quality, accreditation, and accountability. The 11-month intense learning experience was challenging, invigorating, and developed a valuable new network of assessment professionals and new colleagues I already rely upon.

Developed and delivered experiential, simulated exercises in decision making, conflict, leadership, team work and interpersonal communication. Coordinated training objectives with undergraduate and MBA curriculum.
