About Sander Van Schijndel

I am a highly motivated consultant and project manager in the field of property, site and area development. I am experienced in every aspect of the planning and development process, in the Netherlands as well as in Australia. Having graduated in the adaptive reuse of existing buildings and brownfield sites, my skills and interests focus mainly on urban regeneration and heritage. My range of expertise includes preparing site analyses, feasibility studies and providing urban design and planning advice, as well as guiding projects through to development approval.     The Utrecht Development Agency (OMU) was founded in 2011 by the Dutch province of Utrecht to promote the redevelopment and adaptive reuse of existing urban areas. OMU focuses on ‘brownfields’ (abandoned or under-used industrial sites) and ‘greyfields’ (vacant, outdated commercial and office buildings) that no longer attract adequate investment or tenants. Our main goals are to return these economically obsolete sites and buildings to productive use. In this way, OMU aims to improve urban revitalization, economic development, sprawl reduction and sustainability. OMU encourages partnerships between local government and the private sector, and provides assistance by means of an investment fund to finance the design, planning and development of adaptive reuse strategies.
