I would call myself a man striving towards efficiency and equality. While not truly a believer in the creed of the "Greatest Good of the Greatest Number", my thoughts and energies both incline towards trying to harness as much energy as possible to help as many as I can.Though I started this pursuit firmly convinced of the immense power of natural forces, both experience and reading have taught me that the will of thousands can manage and direct any part of nature we may harness. The engineer and scientist in me almost balk at this confession; the bigger, dominant part of my brain is insistent that the need of the hour is in organisation and direction rather than in discovery and engineering.The tools of science are varied and sharp. Their application to fields hitherto untilled - like the social sciences or public policy - has the potential to let us truly evolve as a society. Any society which can make decisions about itself using data, logic and rationalism has the potential to outlast ones which do not. And hence, my desire is to understand the power of society and apply it, using judiciously thought out policies, to areas where it would do the most good. My training lends itself to health and energy policy but I am interested in and well-versed in other parts of public policy as well.Academia leads to an increase in the amount of knowledge available to humanity. But the more I remain shut up in my ivory tower, the more I long to apply what I have learned to helping others directly. Whether that be by creating policy to the advantage of the oppressed, or by helping a company make the world a better place by navigating through the labyrinth of government policy, I wish to do it all.- “The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams.”
