I looked at information such as habitat type, species of vegetation and wildlife present, canopy closure, and whether or not any biological, geological, or physical disturbances were present. This was all part of an effort to develop a management plan for the park. At Moccasin Lake I directed and mentored park volunteers in assisting me with park maintenance, invasive plant removal, managing the native butterfly garden, and the care of resident display animals, which were various species of reptiles, amphibians, insects, and injured non-releasable birds of prey. Customer service and education were part of my responsibilities which comprised of making guests feel at ease and answering any questions they may have. I assisted and participated in many environmental programs and lectures at the park on topics such as beekeeping, sea turtle rescue, organic gardening, native plants, and ecosystem restoration. I also did research on more programs to bring to the park to increase visitation and presented these ideas at city staff meetings. Show less -
