What happens when a finance enthusiast ventures into the world of coding to enhance decision-making?Hi, I’m Sayan Banerjee, a graduate student of MBA at the University of Delaware with a major in Business Analytics, currently interning with The Siegfried Group to learn and assist the FP&A team with financial analysis and forecasting. In addition to my formal training in accounting and finance, I’ve been teaching myself to code in Python, SQL, and Excel VBA. My goal? To learn and leverage programming technology in solving complex financial problems like investment portfolio optimization, stock price prediction, and options pricing etcIn my self-taught coding journey, I developed a Python program that analyzed over 100,000 fund allocation possibilities across three stocks to determine the optimal portfolio mix, resulting in the highest potential returns with the lowest risk. I also reduced stock analysis time by 50%—from 3 minutes to 1.5 minutes—by using Python's YFINANCE library and CORR() function to select non-correlated stocks for better portfolio diversification.My academic background includes a Master of Science in International Financial Analysis from the University of Jönköping, Sweden, and a Master of Commerce in Accounting and Finance from the University of Calcutta, India. These experiences fueled my passion for finance, but coding has added a new dimension to my skill set. For instance, I created a financial forecasting tool in Python that simulates 1,000 scenarios of revenues and costs, predicting the expected gross profit range and visualizing results through a histogram.Previously, as an Audit Assistant at Guha & Matilal LLP, I detected a $51,967 royalty overcharge by applying ASC 606 rules, completed a 15-page audit report in just three days, and mentored interns in audit procedures. These professional experiences, combined with my coding abilities, allow me to bring a unique perspective to financial analysis—one that merges data-driven insights with technical proficiency.I am currently expanding my skill set into machine learning, working with Keras and TensorFlow to predict stock prices.
