• Coordinated narrative on protection and assistance for Lebanon’s Syria Regional Response Plan. • Raised 5 million Euros from the European Commission for UNHCR Lebanon.

• Increased coordination and visibility of Syrian refugee response through innovative regional information management and increased collaboration among UN offices and partner organizations.• Established the Data Analysis Group and expanded its work to include data analysis and reporting on protection and assistance trends for UNHCR and partners working on the Syrian response and the Iraq operation. • Successfully advised UNHCR offices in the region to improve accuracy and increase consistency in reporting.• Conducted trainings with partner organizations on tracking and reporting on protection and assistance to refugees. • Published an article on the cash assistance program, and evaluated its cost-effectiveness. se the system.

• Conducted evaluation of humanitarian response to ensure sustained attention and resources for operations.• Assessed whether the coordination of the international response had improved, as well as efforts made to find longer-term protection solutions for displaced persons. • Co-wrote policy bulletins with recommendations on how to effectively protect and assist displaced Iraqis.

• Supported the advocacy for ratifications and signatories to the Convention. • Coordinated commemorative event at the UN General Assembly for the entry into force of the Convention. • Co-wrote UN Inter-Agency Joint Statement of Commitment to the Convention. • Created and managed the publication, Enable, to promote the Convention and raise public awareness.

• As RI’s representative in NY, developed and implemented advocacy strategies to influence UN policies and programs, national missions and international NGOs; increased alliances with key organizations and coordinated advocacy efforts. • Permanent Missions to the UN followed RI recommendation to include statements about humanitarian conditions for displaced Iraqis during the UNAMI mandate renewal in August 2007. • Organized the first off-the-record discussion since before 2003 for Security Council experts on Iraq in May 2007. Ten of the 15 Security Council members attended, including the US, UK and France. • Initiated and coordinated the NY Iraq Working Group, a coalition of humanitarian organizations, and conducted advocacy with Security Council members and UN officials for the protection and assistance of conflict-affected persons. • Conducted evaluation in the Democratic Republic of Congo, resulting in sustained discussion on response to gender-based violence. Successfully collaborated with other organizations to advocate for the appointment of a high-level envoy for the DRC.

• Led RI’s Congressional advocacy and strategies, increased Congressional advocacy targets, organized hearings and briefings, influenced Congressional priorities and legislation. • Dramatically increased the frequency RI testifies at Congressional hearings and briefings. • Successfully advocated, in collaboration with other organizations, for a full-time Office of Foreign Disaster Assistance representative in northern Uganda.• Collaborated to secure an additional $25 million in emergency assistance for Africa in 2006, to pass an amendment on reporting on the Darfur Peace Agreement, and to initiate legislation on Sudan, DRC and Uganda. • Conducted evaluations and advocacy on for protection and assistance of conflict-affected persons in Central African Republic, Chad, Burma, Thailand and Uganda.

• Led or co-led thirteen evaluations in Burundi, Côte d’Ivoire, Guinea, Kenya, Liberia, Mali, Rwanda, Senegal, Sierra Leone, South Korea, Sri Lanka, Tanzania, and Uganda to evaluate protection and humanitarian needs of displaced people, analyze operational effectiveness, and advocate for policy changes or resources. • Conducted investigations of UN humanitarian and peacekeeping operations, gender-based violence, HIV/AIDS programs, emergency response, landmines, child soldiers, and the reintegration of combatants.• Formulated and made policy recommendations to key stakeholders, primarily UN and donors that resulted in increased protection and assistance for people in conflict and post-conflict areas.(Note: I was promoted from Advocacy Assistant to Advocate after six months.)
