I am currently Doctoral Candidate in the Adaptation to Abrupt Climate Change NSF IGERT fellowship program pursuing a degree in Anthropology and Environmental Policy. This fellowship is joint endeavor between the University of Maine Climate Change Institute (CCI) and School of Policy and International Affairs (SPIA). My work focuses on how rapid abrupt or non-linear changes to earths climate system impacts resource harvesters. Specifically, how extreme ocean events impact the perceptions and behaviors of marine-resource harvesters. Currently I am examining how fishing industry leadership interfaces with local State and Federal policy makers on issues of resource management in rapidly changing environments.

The JWDRF is designed to stimulate research and scholarship at UMaine as measured by a research productivity and doctoral-degree graduate rate. It is currently among the most prestigious Fellowships awarded by the University of Maine's Graduate School.

Come Check us Out!www.herringgut.orgWe use the abundant coastal resources surrounding our campus to present aquaculture and marine science programs that:Engage public school students in grades 6-12 who are academically at risk, using a hands-on, entrepreneurial, business-based model to keep them in school.Train teachers in engaging, hands-on instruction that increases student interest and comprehension in science, math, history and the arts.Connect academic concepts with local ecosystems and fisheries in customized, hands-on classes for groups of public school students.Offer a First Work Experience during the summer months for local teens ages 13-15.Teach conservation and sustainable practices to a new generation of ocean stewards through community outreach programs.Engage families around marine science topics through our summer Saltwater Series.

Coastal Maine

During the winter and Spring of 2015-2016 I collaborated with the Island Institute and former Maine Department of Marine Resources Commissioner George Lapointe to characterize Maine's lobster fishery and produce a report to inform the Northeast Regional Ocean Council and their creation of the Northeast Regional Ocean Plan, pursuant to the National Ocean Policy Presidential Executive Order.http://www.islandinstitute.org/resource/lobster-and-ocean-planning

It is the mission of the GSG to support both the academic and non-academic activities of the graduate student body. Keeping with its mission, GSG will continue to perform the following duties: act as a liaison between the University of Maine’s Administration, faculty, staff and graduate students; encourage graduate students’ involvement in GSG activities and University functions; facilitate and encourage educational, professional and research activities of graduate students; disseminate information regarding graduate activities to graduate students, Administration, faculty, staff and the campus community as a whole; represent graduate student interests to the University community, the state of Maine, and national organizations.As president I am responsible for ensuring that the functions of the GSG and the GSG Officers are carried out in a manner prescribed in this constitution, the GSG Bylaws, Standing Rules and as deemed by the GSG.My duties include acting as liaison between University of Maine Administrators and the GSG, presiding over all meeting of the GSG Senate and Executive Committee, and representing the graduate students on the Graduate Faculty Board.

During my time at Island Institute I helped to organize and run several meetings around climate change and coastal issues. These include a Ocean Acidification Vulnerability meeting and a Climate Change Predictive Capabilities meeting.

Coastal Maine

The Island Institute has graciously brought me on board to assist with several projects this summer. I will be working on a range of issues related to coastal community vulnerability, climate change and marine fisheries.
