Director for Avaya's global converged network and data centers. My team is responsible for the Global network architecture and operations, voice infrastructure operations and data center infrastructure and operations globally. Infrastructure architect for Avaya Global IT, responsible for rationalizing the server, storage and network infrastructure across the data centers world wide. * Tested and implemented Avaya's Shortest Path Bridging network fabric within the data center allowing for secure any-to-any connectivity within the fabric.* Significantly reduced Avaya's operating costs by successfully transitioning the legacy storage environment from fiber channel to network attached (iSCSI and NFS).

As the lead Enterprise Architect within Verizon’s Network Technology and Corporate Systems (NTEC) organization responsible for application support infrastructure. I developed and guided the NTEC Systems portfolio toward a standard commodity based operating environment. I engineered the migration and consolidation of Verizon’s large corporate and global ERP systems away from Mainframe and other proprietary hardware. • Designed, prototyped, and implemented a commodity based solution architecture for the Verizon SAP, and PeopleSoft implementations resulting in project based savings in infrastructure in excess of $12 million.• Designed, prototyped, and implemented a standardized architecture by which all applications and tiers could be virtualized and managed through standard, automated tool suites. This became known as the SOE, Standard Operating Environment. • Completed the migration of 264 applications and 1500 servers built due to a Verizon data center closure.• Completed the build of an enterprise class virtual environment consisting of blade servers, 10G network infrastructure and NAS based storage. The environment hosts over 1200 virtual servers and has over 300 Oracle RAC clusters.• Created a centralized database management unit for over 2400 databases, leveraging common tools, monitoring, automated deployment and patching, backups, and security.• Created a centralized server management system for over 3800 servers, providing automated server builds, software deployment, OS patching and configuration auditing.• Championed the adoption of a new Linux standard for all servers resulting in contractual savings in excess of $18 million.• Assisted in creating the initial architecture design and implementation of the newly formed Verizon Digital Media Solutions business unit.

Lead architect for Verizon Services Operations Corporate Systems. Responsible for the architectural design, implementation and support of Verizon’s Financial and HR systems. The infrastructure consists of over 200 servers and 25 terabytes of storage. • Planned and implemented a benchmark to determine the best price/performance solution to implement the Verizon SAP Converged financial system on. The new environment utilizing commodity priced Intel based servers running the Linux OS reduced the project cost by over $500k.• Planned and implemented installation of the Sun F15K infrastructure for financial reporting systems, employee self-service portal, corporate LDAP, and corporate electronic document management. • Designed and implemented the infrastructure and configuration of the Corporate Portal (Digital Workplace) for Human Resources starting with WebSphere 4 and migrating to WebSphere Portal 5.1. • Part of the Verizon/MCI merger team for Corporate Systems, integrating the corporate LDAP directories, single sign-on environments, inter-company network connectivity, and consolidated HR Portal environment.

Basis administrator for the Verizon SAP R/3 project. Responsible for the installation and support of multiple production SAP Landscapes, consisting of numerous SUN Microsystems E10k Enterprise Servers and EMC storage. The production systems support the Verizon Telephone Operations General Ledger and Payroll system for Verizon West’s 100,000 employees. Responsible for all hardware specifications, network configurations, database sizing and hardware-software selections/implementation in the SAP environment. • Organized and performed upgrade of SAP systems from 31H to 4.6B. The upgrade required the operating system to be upgraded from Solaris 2.5 to Solaris 2.6 and Oracle 7.3.4 to Oracle 8.0.6.• Designed and implemented an EMC TimeFinder project on EMC storage to provide rapid recovery as well as a production test system in the Human Resource SAP environment.• Prepared and implemented hardware and network infrastructure for the SAP production, test, and development environments.• Designed and implemented a highly available SAP system utilizing Veritas Cluster Server.

As a member of IBM Global Services organization I specialized in large MPP (Massively Parallel Processing) UNIX implementations. At the time, a major issue with large data warehouses was the storage provided by IBM. Disk replacement took a skilled administrator and changed the data access patterns as well as left a large amount of storage unprotected while the volumes synced up. Developed a process to replace failed drives with a minimum of exposure and allowing data center personnel to perform the replacement without experienced personnel on site. The program was a supported product provided by IBM at the time of my departure. Part of a “Top Gun” team that worked on high profile customer engagements working directly with IBM engineers to solve unique and complex problems. Recognized by the Global Services consulting practice as the top consultant in the area for 1997.

Lead Systems Administrator for open systems at AutoZone, managing primarily AIX servers. I was hired at AutoZone to consolidate all of the open systems applications and networks within AutoZone. We moved from departmental networks with random IP addresses and haphazardly managed machines and applications to an enterprise class data center with Nortel routers and switches and standardized server configurations and application configuration. A DNS naming service was implemented and a Class B network was registered with the InterNIC and used within AutoZone. An enterprise backup solution was also put into place using IBM ADSM. Installed and configured a showcase terabyte data warehouse running DB2/6000 Parallel Edition on the RS/6000 SP platform.

Managed the Texas A&M University Aerospace Engineering departments computing resources. These included student PC labs as well as Open Systems servers used by the professors and doctoral students for numerical analysis. The environment included a heterogeneous array of systems including IBM, Sun, and Silicon Graphics to name a few.
