Coordinate environmental regulatory compliance for Larimer County Engineering and administer the County's Environmental and Science Advisory Board. I work with FEMA's Environmental and Historic Preservation team, CDOT Environmental Division, USFW, USFS, USACE, FHWA, Colorado's State Water Quality Control Division, and Colorado Parks and Wildlife, and other federal and state agencies to assist with the County's flood related recovery projects and capital infrastructure projects.I act as a resource expert in my program areas (reviewing environmental impact statements, endangered species , wetlands, stormwater quality and MS4), and provide technical guidance to Engineering, Planning and Natural Resources staff. I serve as the Staff Facilitator to the Larimer County Board of Commissioner's Environmental and Science Advisory Board. I also respond to public questions regarding environmental concerns related to our County's infrastructure projects.Current projects include leading a team to develop the County's Environmental Responsibility Policy and internal operations sustainability plan, and participating on the Climate Smart Larimer County framework that will provide recommendations on how the County can work with the community to act on climate change.

My work with FEMA EHP involved reviewing project worksheets for their compliance with all applicable federal and state historic and environmental laws, regulations, and executive orders. For the most part, worksheets involved grants to support recovery (repair to pre-disaster condition) and mitigation (upgrades to codes and standards) projects for roads, bridges, culverts, irrigation ditches, public utilities, riverside parks and recreational areas.I used a variety of spatial databases (Google Earth, ArcGIS, Acme Mapper, FEMA map service, USFWS Wetlands Mapper, USFWS Critical Habitat Portal) to identify project locations and determine their environmental resources. Based on the scopes of work, I determined potential impacts to those resources. My reviews focused on compliance with NEPA, ESA, Clean Water Act, Clean Air Act, Bald and Golden Eagle Protection Act, Migratory Bird Treaty Act and the National Historic Preservation Act, as well as Floodplain, Wetlands and Environmental Justice Executive Orders. ESA species of concern that I worked with were Preble’s Meadow Jumping Mouse, The Ute ladies’-tresses orchid, and The Colorado butterfly plant. I also determined the presence of nest locations for bald and golden eagles, osprey and peregrine falcon. I served as EHP point of contact with FEMA public assistance project specialists (PA) and mitigation specialists. I also attended meetings and site visits with FEMA PA, mitigation, County engineers and their environmental consultants. I worked with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, and wrote several informal consultation letters.

RESEARCH PROJECTS1. Investigate range-wide patterns of genetic variation for North American goshawks across North America. Specifically, I used mtDNA to address questions concerning phylogeographic history and isolation. I also measured gene flow among populations, and identified unique and isolated populations. Work has begun to use microsatellite genetic markers to also measure gene flow and genetic structure. 2. Habitat assessment for Northern Goshawks of the Black Hills, South Dakota. This project assessed current habitat conditions for goshawks and their prey species. The goal was to identify areas of the Black Hills National Forest that are best suited for habitat improvement projects for goshawks and their prey. Results from this project will assist BHNF in decision making with respect to habitat improvement projects. Project deliverables included a report RMRS-GTR-339. My role on this project was data management, analysis and writing habitat assessments for 25 bird and mammal species goshawks use as prey. 3. Use LiDAR to measure goshawk habitat composition and structure across the Kaibab Plateau. One goal we have on this project is to measure forest structure in nest areas, post-fledging-family areas (PFA), and foraging areas (FA) in 125 goshawk territories on the Kaibab Plateau. Such habitat assessments will allow us to investigate the relationship between goshawk demographic performance and identification of the vegetation elements that confer habitat quality. My role on this project was one of project development and management, funding acquisition and grant writing. I am currently volunteering with this project and I will be assisting with interpretation of geospatial analysis results.

• Worked off and on as a volunteer. Assisted with spotting and road trapping target and migratory raptors (Orange County and Camp Pendelton, California). • Responded to 1997 Humboldt Bay, CA oil spill by searching for and collecting oiled birds on coastal beaches. Birds were delivered to the Marine Wildlife Care Center, where I washed, rinsed and dried the oiled pelagic birds according to the Oiled Wildlife Care Network protocol. • Surveyed for a Federally listed Endangered Species, the Marbled Murrelet according to established protocol. Field work took place in the Siskiyou and Rogue River National Forests and Medford District, Bureau of Land Management, Oregon.
