Short-term consultant for Media Cloud, an open-source platform for media analysis. I analyze and test the data quality of news stories collected via the open web, and write research reports and public blog posts based on the analysis.

As one of two data journalists in the Boston newsroom, I write data-driven investigative stories and help design and create graphics for all stories on PRI.org. I use statistical methods and programming to find the stories in big datasets: Immigration trends, incidents of global terrorism, and changes in higher education. I report on all breaking news subjects, but specialize on topics of race, identity, migration, gender, and technology. In addition, I help produce and cut radio interviews.

Primary researcher for the Journalism team's report on the Flint water crisis using Google search data. During my fellowship at Pew, I was involved with the report from beginning to end. I contributed to methodological design, implementation, testing and writing of the report. Using a combination of the python and R programming languages, I analyzed large datasets of Google search data and news media coverage. Using these two datasets and advanced statistical methods, we were able to gain a comprehensive view of how both local and national media covered the Flint water crisis, and how this compared to citizen's personal searches on Google.
