I am a Sheffield river ranger and volunteer my time to carry out Riverfly kick samples on the river Rivelin. Recording the abundance and presence of invertebrates found within a given area of the river provides an indication of the river's health. I also monitor for signs of pollution and report this to the Environment Agency. I am currently studying for a certificate in Conservation Management with Ecology Training UK after previously studying for a certificate in Ecology and Sustainability at the Centre for Alternative Technology (CAT).I have volunteered at different organisations around Sheffield including the Sheffield and Rotherham Wildlife Trust and Manor Lodge, Sheffield.I have a background in art and studied Jewellery and Silversmithing at Glasgow School of Art and also Textile Design at Duncan of Jordanstone, Dundee.

VolunteerSage Greenfingers Jul 2019 - Jan 2020Sheffield, United KingdomSAGE is a mental health charity who support people by providing horticultural therapy sessions and singing classes. I helped out at the horticultural sessions by performing general gardening duties and assisting service users with whatever tasks they wanted to take part in. We also harvested our own fresh, organic vegetables produced on site and shared a lovely meal together at the end of each session. Working with SAGE really helped me to see how wonderful horticulture can be for good mental well-being and how valuable it is as a therapy for people who may be suffering from mental health conditions such as depression and anxiety. Being able to take time out of a busy day to plant seeds, share thoughts and build friendships with people was very a very rewarding experience.
