Profile bio

About Saba Hamedy

I am a Los Angeles-based Culture & Trends editor at NBC News Digital. We cover the latest news, trends, personalities, and cultural shifts that are native to the internet and social platforms — with expertise, voice, depth and original reporting.Previously, I served as an editor on CNN Digital’s National Desk, where I edited 5-10 stories daily related to: climate change, the Covid-19 pandemic and the racial justice movement. Before that, I spent almost two years at CNN in its Washington D.C. bureau, where I co-authored the “The Point with Chris Cillizza” newsletter and helped cover breaking political news, including James Comey’s testimony and Supreme Court’s ruling to uphold the travel ban. I also worked as an assignment news editor for HuffPost out of its Los Angeles bureau, where I helped run coverage of breaking news events including the Brett Kavanugh hearings, the California & Australia fires and Kobe Bryant’s death. I began my journalism career covering entertainment, first at the Los Angeles Times and then at Mashable, where I reported on Netflix, Amazon and Hulu; the rise of platforms such as YouTube; the fall of platforms such as Vine; and all things Harry Potter. I have moderated panels with stars such as Chelsea Handler and Kevin Hart, and interviewed celebrities including Trevor Noah and Mindy Kaling. I graduated Boston University with degrees in political science and journalism. I now teach part-time at the University of Southern California's Annenberg School for Communication and Journalism and as an instructor at California Scholastic Press Association's high school summer journalism workshop.I am fluent in Farsi and conversational in Spanish.

Listed skills include Journalism, Social Media, Editing, Storytelling, and 27 others.
