At Earthling, I led agile teams in developing custom applications for clients ranging from startups to established businesses. I collaborated with clients and product managers to define requirements and create sustainable architectures. I worked with the development team to lay out the bones of each system and then guided the growth of the system through design discussions and code reviews. I implemented complex features in modern technologies including JavaScript/ES6/TypeScript, React, Redux, MobX, node.js, Express.js, and PHP. I view automated testing, continuous integration, and seamless deployment as critical to success and they’re one of the first things I set up when starting a project. In my spare time, I've been exploring data visualization in VR and have recently published an open source library for visualizing geographic data in VR using Mozilla's A-Frame, D3.js and Three.js.

Directed a team of 11 engineers and 7 consultants, applying lean and agile best practices to build and support software tools to enable therapeutics discovery. • Managed development of a scientific OLAP system that combined a Kimball-style Oracle data warehouse with an ontology-based triple store of metadata, enabling scientists to quickly explore new hypotheses about diseases.• Led initiative to address customer pain-points and deployed new features and bug fixes that resulted in improved customer satisfaction, lower error rates in data collection, and reduction of support costs by 50%.• Built and maintained a healthy engineering culture with < 10% annual turn-over.• Leveraged $500K consulting budget to augment project teams with specialized skills.• Presented keynote speech about data management best practices at company-wide bioinformatics retreat.• Founding member of company initiative to provide better training & career development for software engineers.

Led technical team of 10 engineers distributed across 7 remote sites to develop the BioAssay Research Database (BARD - https://bard.nih.gov), a free, public platform funded by the NIH.

Built a Laboratory Informatics Management System (LIMS) for a high-throughput biological screening facility from the ground up. System is used 24/7 by more than 100 biologists, chemists, and automation engineers and handles workflow and data capture for testing 2+ million compounds per month.

Designed and developed core features for a Laboratory Informatics Management System (LIMS), including inventory management, synthetic chemistry support, robot integration, and automated data collection. Maintained and enhanced ChemBank (http://chembank.broadinstitute.org), a public small-molecule screening and cheminformatics resource database.

Led client-side development of a long-term planning application for HBO’s programming.
