Slipstream is a non-profit that discovers, tests, and scales climate solutions in buildings and communities. work for ComEd. At Slipstream, I provided technical assistance to the professional engineers at Slipstream with energy modeling for commercial new construction projects in and around the Chicago area. The goal of the energy efficiency program is to help building design teams make informed decisions about the energy efficiency of their buildings. Slipstream executes this goal by ensuring buildings meet energy code as well as urging design teams to choose more efficient building components (including HVAC, electrical, building envelope, etc.). The energy efficiency measure recommendations are supported by detailed energy models which are created in eQuest and Sketchbox.I also engaged in research projects that examine the efficiency and energy savings of new technologies such as smart valves in chiller plants, Energy Management Information Systems and Refrigerated Thermal Energy Storage.This position as Energy Intern exposed me to the importance of modeling in the engineering design process. I engaged in real-world problem solving that is making the field of commercial energy-use more sustainable.
