At Vistamar, I broadened my scope and skills as an educator, teaching biology, chemistry, and physics at the non-AP level for grades 9-12, as well as AP Biology. I was proud to increase the rate of our students passing the AP Bio exam from 55 to 80% in my first year, reaching 85% in subsequent years. I was able to implement more effective differentiation.

Proteins are often degraded after attachment long, lysine 48-linked chains of ubiquitin by ubiquitin ligases. I found that short ubiquitin chains are rapidly removed from proteins by deubiquitinating enzymes (DUBs), but that long chains are resistant to removal. This re- sistance is lost if the closed structure of the Lys48-linkage is disrupted or replaced.

The tumor suppressor protein Rb is a transcriptional corepressor that prevents cell-cycle initiation until it is neutralized by early G1 cyclin-dependent kinase activity.
