I have been an educator for over a decade. For most of that time I was a history teacher and department chair. I now serve as the Assistant Principal of a Catholic high school in Brooklyn. As the Assistant Principal, I've helped design our school's academic vision and then worked to help bring it to fruition. That work starts with hiring a team of dedicated faculty members who are both committed to our mission and able to lead learning in the classroom. As one of the instructional leaders in the building, I then design and facilitate adult learning (PD) sessions that are engaging and research-based. In partnership with the Principal, I coach and mentor a team of 18 full-time teachers using the framework from "Get Better Faster" and "Leverage Leadership 2.0." When I am not in the classroom or working with teachers, I am often handling student issues, meeting with families, or teaching a Personal Finance elective to seniors. I also directly supervise the school's Academic Support Coordinator and coordinate testing, schedules, subbing, and proctoring for the school. As a teacher, I utilize backwards design to create unit plans that are created based on both content and skills standards. I implement lessons that are based on cooperative, constructive learning, where students are active, engaged participants using analysis and critical thinking skills. An observer to my classroom would find it bustling with activity, and hopefully, energy. I have significant experience in writing curricula and assessments using benchmark-aligned questions, both for my own classes as well as for our network of 38 schools. Outside of the classroom, I was the school's testing coordinator, taught SAT/ACT Prep, and co-directed the school's choir.In May of 2018, I graduated from Fordham University earning my Master's Degree in Teaching Adolescent Social Studies. I have completed all of the requirements to become a certified teacher in the state of New York.Originally from Sarasota, Florida, I graduated Summa Cum Laude from the University of Florida in May of 2012. Directly after graduation, I joined the Full-Time Volunteer Program at Cristo Rey New York High School where I taught courses (Freshman Computer, Independent Reading,) co-taught United States History Part I with the school's principal and helped with various other school tasks.
