About Susie Chen

I am a research psychologist passionate about improving and advancing educational equity in higher education. In my role as Manager of the Solutions Lab at WGU Labs, I employ a diverse set of skills, working with EdTech start-ups and higher ed institutions to craft and implement research goals, design and conduct rigorous, mixed-methods studies to investigate multiple pathways into higher education, and write public-facing content in a variety of forms (client reports, blog posts). We engage in a rigorous design-research cycle to examine, design, and test solutions to address issues of equity in higher education.I am trained as a social psychologist, earning my PhD from the University of Pittsburgh. I have academic expertise in creating and testing psychologically-oriented interventions to improve student success, well-being, and belonging, with a focus on advancing outcomes for historically underserved students, both at a targeted (e.g. performance in STEM fields) and general university level.
