Doctoral Dissertation In Clinical PsychologyPgsp-Stanford Psyd Consortium Sep 2014 - Nov 2016Successfully defended doctoral dissertation at the PGSP-Stanford Psy.D. Consortium on November 11, 2016.Dissertation title: The relationship of shame-proneness to depression, self-compassion, and childhood maltreatment in a residential treatment populationDescription: This longitudinal study examined changes over time in levels of shame-proneness, depression, and self-compassion in a sample of 103 adults with childhood maltreatment histories who participated in shame-focused residential treatment. Negotiated permission from treatment center to collect original data from its client base over a 9-month period. Results indicated that, at baseline, shame-proneness was significantly and positively associated with multiple forms of childhood maltreatment and depression, as well as significantly and negatively associated with self-compassion. Decreases in shame-proneness over time were significantly associated with decreases in depression and increases in self-compassion. A history of childhood maltreatment did not predict a weaker improvement in shame-proneness over the course of treatment.Committee: Bruce Arnow, Ph.D. (Chair), Robert Wickham, Ph.D. (Statistical Advisor, Reader), and Christine Blasey Ford (Process Mentor, Statistical Advisor, and Reader up to a successful dissertation proposal)
