Member of a crackerjack team that built a global low-latency network serving the online video gaming industry. I used Terraform and Ansible to provision and configure hundreds of Debian VMs running in multiple clouds. I installed, scaled and maintained our network control plane running Kubernetes/Istio on GCP and AWS, deployed via Jenkins, Helm and Skaffold. I built and tuned large areas of our monitoring systems on Prometheus, Grafana and PagerDuty. It was BigFun! The company moved to LA.

Club NCNU's CIO brought me in to help deliver his upcoming initiatives and revive IT’s reputation within the company. Selected accomplishments include: - Renovate: Key player in the launch of a new membership system that integrated Salesforce, Aria, Retalix, Iron.io and Boomi clouds with on-premise Boomi and Oracle. I identified the central project and technical blockages, drafted the launch plan and wrangled the challenging middleware configuration. The launch recovered $1.5 MM/mo. in OpEx. Became the go-to guy for anything having to do with the application ecosystem. - Innovate: Helped invent and launch AAA's implementation of the Scaled Agile Framework. Aligned four development silos on the same cadence and ceremonies. - Automate: created CI and deployment pipelines on Jenkins, converging separate code streams into a common, coordinated release paradigm. Wrote numerous tools to provide IT "glue". Refitted the web site pipeline on Docker containers. - Optimize: diagrammed the application ecosystem. Jettisoned unused legacy systems, modernized infrastructure, consolidated and optimized the resulting data center footprint. Drove conversion of antiquated in-store systems to modern cloud-provisioned systems using Chef. Wrote numerous Chef recipes to convert in-store servers, workstations and POS terminals from proprietary 3rd-party systems to Linux-based systems. Retooled "magical" deployment orchestration system to provide transparent continuous integration on Jenkins CI. Developed a Ruby client for the Nexpose API to automate security scans on lab hardware.

Designed and built a custom tool chain for delivering software builds to multiple ATG environments, reducing deployment cycle time from 2 weeks to minutes. Integrated with Hudson to automate "fail-fast" principles. Created redundant architecture to allow deployments to any environment without service outage. Devised process for promoting data schema updates up the deployment ladder. Designed and built the infrastructure to integrate translations.com with sephora.com to localize the site in French. Ring-led the holiday readiness team and task list.

Oversaw the QA, Customer Support and Localization teams. Virtualized the QA lab and devised a procedure for migrating data sets from Production to QA, enabling release testing in a controlled environment. Devised the migration strategy and oversaw validation of the migration of ~140 PostgreSQL databases to MS SQL Server. Planned and led the QA aspects of migrating the technology stack from Java/Tomcat/Open Source on Linux to .NET/IIS on Windows. Authored and delivered training plans on usage of MS Test Center, TFS, Lab Manager and Visual Studio. Hired, trained, motivated and retained a top-flight software testing team in a chaotic start-up environment. Managed delivery of new and existing features into weekly production releases. Planned and integrated quality infrastructure projects with feature development plans. Represented the risk organ for the software side of the company.

Introduced Agile methodologies to the newly-formed Web Engineering team. Served as Scrum Master on an SOA implementation of LeapFrog.com. Drove delivery of the new site and supported it operationally through the $16MM+ 2007 retail selling season.Managed team of 3 Program Managers tracking over a dozen concurrent projects. Scoped, estimated, planned, scheduled and coordinated projects across several interdependent groups. Linked Web Engineering milestones with project plans from other development groups, providing a unified view of the schedule across all R&D (a LeapFrog first!). Set the agenda for the engineering and infrastructure changes needed to scale the operation to meet the demands of the 2009 holiday onslaught. I managed the QA and Release teams, defined and owned the testing and deployment processes (functional and load/performance), as well as the build and test tool suite.
