I am the Logistics Manager of the Midwest plant for Santa Monica Seafood. Since there is no major lakes besides Lake Michigan we fly in all of our raw material (fresh/ frozen fish) to our location. This is a bigger logistics challenge then it would appear given the pandemic, restricted air space, and port shortages. My main role is to manage the entire logistics department including shipping, receiving, inventory, purchasing, powered equipment training, maintaining our truck fleet, and coordinating with third party logistics brokers/ carriers. This role has given me the freedom to create processes, hire/ recruit my own team, and train/ develop logistics personnel. This job had been challenging, but also very rewarding for me and I have learned a lot about international coordination of shipments. I was able to have free reign form the president to change and update process to streamline the entire logistics department. It was a great experience creating efficient SOP's that my team and I all agreed upon.

When I first join this company, it was called Clear Lam packaging. We were bought out by Sonoco and became Sonoco Elk Grove. My main functions as a warehouse manager was control the 2060 warehouse, track its inventory, schedule shipping / receiving, motivate / oversee 8 employees on a continental shift, feed production team the required materials. The warehouse is 80,000 sq. ft. I would come up with weekly tasks and goals for my personal to achieve. I would follow up with them and the inventory movements daily, to ensure nothing was being moved without a scan. Checked the EFI inventory system daily to prevent mistakes and game plan for material coming in. My team and I would check and load all shipments going out to customers. I would have the final check of the loaded trailer and keep records of all the Bill of Ladings. I was responsible for training and re-training my team various skills such as: safety, inspections, loading criteria, inventory and unplanned changes to the shifts. I would be in charge of keeping all documents, pictures, and files for each shipment to rely on as backup in case any problem occurred while in transit. My team and I would oversee moving all inventory around the warehouse, receiving raw materials, and condensing/ 6S the warehouse to make it more efficient each week. When I arrived, the warehouse was in bad shape. Materials were mixed up everywhere and there was no structure. I aided my team to create a plan to separate all types of material & keep it organized. This made everyone work shifts easier & reduced inventory errors. I would often train new hire personal on fork trucks every other week. Would work directly with production team, having daily meetings, understanding how we could serve them better, and feed them the required material for each job per extrusion line. I was a key member of the safety performance team. I ran a team of personal from around the plant focused on making our hazmat program more sound (HMIS).

When I was hired by Tredegar Film, I was hired on to be the stockroom coordinator. I would order new tools / parts when we needed more. I would keep detailed inventory records of the stockroom including what were the most used parts and if we had to custom order a new part. Worked closely with the plant mechanics, logistics department, and management team. I re supplied tools and parts weekly in various areas of the plant and office. I eventually moved into the Logistics Coordinator job. I was appointed of overseeing the packaging department and training some of the new hires. I still checked on the stockroom to ensure the new personal running the area were completing everything required. I would help the shipping team load & unload trucks when free to assist the team. Worked with management team to set up scrap pickups. Directly worked with plant mechanics and would report which forklifts needed repair or preventive maintenance. This location eventually closed down, so I left in search of new opportunity

Was hired here at Maxxsonics as a pick & pack worker in the warehouse. I was trained to package up products going out via UPS / Fed Ex, as well as build full skids to send on LTL shipments. I was trained to drive an electric forklift and how to effectively use the Syspro inventory system to find anything in the warehouse. I learned quickly and moved up to the warehouse leas position. As a warehouse lead I oversaw all the inventory levels of all products in the warehouse. I also followed up on the pick & pack department and would help if anyone was behind. I was a key member for resigning our racking system to meet insurance requirements. I was trained to operate the Crown cherry picker forklift to pull entire pallets from the racks to regulate inventory. I created a better process for organizing smaller parts with a bin system. Eventually some people left, and I was able to become the assistant warehouse manager aiding my boss when necessary. I basically did the same jobs as before, but now I would reach out to LTL shipping carriers and create job bids to move our LTL shipments. I would select who won by scheduling their dock appointment times and deliver dates. I could now receive products into the system after we would unload containers of re-supply products. Worked with the Vice President of the company to try to make the warehouse more efficient with ideas / trails. Eventually, I was invited to start going with to trade shows to help introduce new products to new customers.

While Working for UPS, I learned a lot of different jobs and skills. being my first real job, it was a great experience, plus they teach you how to work hard! I started out as seasonal help worker in 2005 for their busy Christmas peak season. They hired an extra 200 employees and only hired 2 once the season was over. I was one of them that stood out above the rest, I worked extremely hard and quickly became my supervisors lead man. I was hired on as a truck loader in the outbounds and worked on 2 different loading docks until I got promoted to supervisor 8 months later. I became a part time supervisor and managed my first package dock that had 10 people. At first, I was average, but there is a lot that goes into managing a dock, I was very green in managing people and the area. After a year I went to the training department to help teach brand new hires to load trucks the required way. After a year in the training department, I was moved back to the outbounds to continue running different package docks. I was moved from dock to dock all around the building, usually spending 4-8 months at each area. Now I could retrain my current employees to build them up to the most efficient workers. By the end, I knew how to run any outbound package dock in the building and was highly respected. Towards the end I was promoted to run their next day air dock. This area deals with all the hot next day air and international packages going on air planes. This is a job very few supervisors get the opportunity to manage and it takes a lot of attention to detail. I would forecast trailers and shuttles out to O'Hare Air Port and directly communicate with them on a nightly basis. This job was extremely challenging as every single number had to be perfect on everything. I ran this area with pride and was able to update the current standard operating process to enhance it via an excel program. This was huge for the company in regards to saving time and reducing human error.
