The Industrial Assessment Center (IAC) is a university program sponsored by the U.S. Department of Energy that provides no-cost energy, productivity, and waste assessments to small and medium sized manufacturers. As a member of the Boise State University IAC team, I visited local manufacturers with faculty and other engineering students.During each visit the team identifies areas for possible efficiency improvements. An assessment report is then compiled detailing calculations of savings which is presented to the client within 60 days.

ENGR 100L: Energy for Society LabAs the first lead graduate teaching assistant for ENGR 100L, I oversaw the development and implementation of the course while assisting over 500 students in understanding course content. Clear communication and organization also allowed me to effectively manage a team of 7 undergraduate teaching assistants. I was responsible for effectively delivering course material so that students of all majors can leave the class with a better understanding of personal energy use and it's relationship to global energy infrastructure. I moderated weekly discussion groups where students came to ask questions or discuss energy-related topics. My other duties include grading, responding to student emails in a timely manner, and continually improving the quality of the course material.

ENGR 100: Energy for SocietyMy responsibility as a teaching assistant for a 100 level engineering class is to ensure students of all majors are able to understand the concepts behind our global energy infrastructure. I moderate weekly discussion groups where students come to ask questions or discuss energy related topics. I am also part of a team of teaching assistants that is developing a future additional lab component of the class. This requires research into possible lab topics, investigation of components, and writing of lab instructions.

During the summer of 2013, I interned for Tamarack Aerospace Group. One of my responsibilities consisted of using various data acquisition instruments to collect flight data. By creating Excel macros I was able to analyze the data and compile the findings. I was also part of a team that built a test fixture necessary to collect flight data. Another role I had was product inspection, which required the interpreting of technical drawings. While at Tamarack, I had the chance to learn about and participate in carbon fiber layups. Through all these experiences, I gained a new perspective how small engineering companies operate and the teamwork needed to succeed.
