Optimizing anesthesia care in obstetrics is my passion: improved collaboration between all professionals involved will benefit mothers, children and families worldwide. I combine research in obstetric anesthesia with clinical work at the Albert Schweitzer Hospital in Dordrecht (one of the big peripheral teaching hospitals in the Netherlands) and with family life.Being a real clinician, I focus mostly on training, educational activities and collaborative research-projects. Enhanced quality and safety in peripartum Dutch anesthesia care will need a system optimization at a national level. Organizational changes are needed in order to incorporate patient-centered, value-based health care concepts in obstetric anesthesia practice. At the same time the unique Dutch physiologic approach to birth needs to be safeguarded. With developed skills in research methodology and organizational aspects of health care delivery I hope to contribute to these reforms.
