As the Career and Technical Education Revitalization Grant Manager I worked with a team to write Requests for Proposals, organize and train reviewers, and use the Electronic Grant Management System to track expenditures. Other duties included writing reports for the legislature, collecting and analyzing data, processing requests for information, and working with grant recipients.

I led groups of children in summer camp activities that included outdoor survival skills, role playing, plant identification, tracking, and more. I also assisted the coordinator with organizing equipment, work schedules, and other duties as necessary.

I worked as part of an international, multi-organizational team on a $25 million USAID grant to establish Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) schools in Egypt.I created and delivered a modular, two-week training program for nearly 100 new teachers on STEM pedagogy. The training included strands on Inquiry, Project-Based Learning, Backward Design, Team Building, Professional Learning Communities, Classroom Management, Using Rubrics, Teaching Strategies, and more. I updated the training through multiple iterations to improve the content and increase alignment with our learning outcomes. I created the presentation materials and accompanying documentation including the slide-show with presenter notes, and Teacher’s Companion book.I collected and analyzed data to measure the effectiveness of the training, co-authored over 700 pages of documentation on the training for USAID, interviewed and assessed teacher candidates to make recommendations to the Egyptian Ministry of Education, and assisted with the training programs of the partner organizations, including, but not limited to Capstone Projects, Curriculum Development, Assessment, and School Orientation.

My wife and I own 2 rental properties that we manage together. This involves screening tenants, making repairs and improvements, screening and working with businesses that provide the services that we need, keeping the books, doing the taxes, answering questions, inspecting the properties and dozens of other detailed pieces of the job, like making sure the properties are running at a profit.

Designed, planned and implemented high quality lessons aligned to state standards in science; specifically Physical Science, Biology, and Marine Science. Created daily instructional materials in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel. Supervised groups of up to 37 students in their daily tasks. Provided guidance, direction, and correction as needed. Collected and analyzed data to provide feedback to students, parents, and other staff in a timely manner. Additionally, participated in various committees including: Common Formative Assessments, Textbook Adoption, Core Standards, and Performance Assessments. Studied the decline of mud shrimp due to an introduced parasite. Collected and analyzed samples, created spreadsheets to compile and analyze data, designed and conducted experiments, and built experimental tools. Trained / Supervised other interns and volunteers in data collection methods. Presented my findings at the Partners in Science annual conference.

Researched, designed, implemented, and reported progress on goals for improved student achievement for state math and reading assessments. Oversaw the writing of the grant proposal, the implementation of proposed practices, and the writing of the annual progress report. Worked with the math and reading teams to ensure that they had the data they needed to complete their tasks on time. Created and delivered presentations to the school about the progress of the reform efforts. Attended local and national training and conferences on school reform and smaller learning communities.

Designed, created, and delivered high quality lessons tied to state standards. As department head, I organized and ran department meetings, collected and disseminated information, updated the science portion of the school improvement plan, re-organized the stock room, and ordered materials as needed. Provided support and guidance for new teachers, and attended state conferences and training on science teaching and bilingual education.

Designed, created and implemented high quality lessons based on the Pacific Language School teaching system. Attended national training sessions and provided training and support for new teachers. Assisted with hiring new staff, designed and taught new classes for three-year-olds, and expanded and updated teaching materials while converting them to electronic documents.

Directed workers in implementing environmental resource management program of restoring native plants and habitat, building and repairing boardwalks, etc. Interacted with the public: Q/A, tours, volunteer group supervision. Conducted wildlife surveys of native plants and animals.
