Steven led Renaissance Learning’s data engineering organization, comprised of 7 teams tasked with supporting the Schoolzilla and EduClimber product lines, as well as Renaissance’s data platform. These teams grew from building Schoolzilla’s original data-warehouse-as-a-service and web-based analytics products to supporting the backbone data mesh platform for all of Renaissance’s product lines. These product engineering teams owned custom-built analytic web applications, 100+ edtech data integration connectors, and processed terabytes of data for tens of millions of students daily.- Launched a new web-based analytics product within the first year of being acquired, requiring scaling to 10x the number of K-12 district customers, now supporting over 20 million students- Achieved rapid vertical scale post-acquisition, growing from supporting a single top 100-largest US K-12 school district to now supporting 7 of the top 10 largest districts in the US- Migrated from a costly AWS Glue + SQL Server to a dbt + Airflow + Snowflake ETL pipeline and data warehouse, resulting in over 60% cost savings and unlocking the ability for elastic scale- Matured the DevOps culture by adding processes such as on-call, incident response, APM monitoring, and unified logs- Grew the teams and attracted talent to achieve these milestones, aided by establishing a recruiting/interviewing pipeline and career pathways

Worked with an amazingly passionate and mission-driven organization on its journey from startup through acquisition by Renaissance Learning- Represented the organization through the diligence and selection process of the acquisition- Retained talent during acquisition, with less than 10% turnover during the first year under the parent company

Steven led 6 engineering teams, charged with developing Amplify’s most critical shared systems, including authentication, onboarding, retail, and data warehousing / analytics. These teams, spread across multiple office location in the US and Eastern Europe, were expected to deliver the highest levels of availability for a rapidly growing user base of students and teachers, numbering in the millions.- Brought together teams from two divisions to form a shared, cross-product group, in order to unify Amplify’s critical shared services and reduce redundancy and complexity- Scaled backend systems for 5x annual user growth by migrating from a monolith legacy server to a microservice architecture- Led application and process improvements which reduced enrollment of new customers from weeks to minutes/hours- Co-led the establishment of an engineering recruiting and interviewing pipeline

- Integrated team members and technology from the acquisition of an interactive curriculum company- Architected, built, and launched a new supplemental curriculum application called Amplify Fractions (video overview below). This interactive, animation-based web app was built using Angular and GreenSock on the front and a suite of RESTful NodeJS Express microservices on the back

- Lead the development of a JAVA Play Framework / Angular 1.x based practice and assessment application which accompanied Amplify's digital curriculum application.

- Designed and built a new risk modeling web application using AngularJS, BootStrap

- Designed and developed a data warehouse for multiple functional areas utilizing Informatica’s ETL platform and an Oracle database- Maintained the US Mortgage Insurance’s SAS BI platform

Participated in a 2 year leadership development program where I rotated between different parts of Genworth's IT organization including Network Security, Infrastructure, Web Development, and Data Engineering.- Rotation 1 - Rolled out a Cisco Network Access Control solution across multiple office locations- Rt. 2 - Planned and executed a regional data center move- Rt. 3 - Development on a JAVA LifeRay based e-commerce website for a long term care business - https://caregiving.genworth.com- Rt. 4 - Developed distributed reports and OLAP cubes for business segments using SAS BI Tools
