Designed and built end-to-end analytical data warehouse that ingested, processed, and analyzed up to 300 million user-generated events per day. Running on 256 cores and 512GB of RAM, the relational database maintained tens of billions of fact records comprising of over 50 TB of compressed relational data. The analytical (OLAP) database was highly performant at the cost of increased storage, and reached 14 TB in size. Slicing members were used to define and query non-overlapping fact partitions containing distinct granularities of data. This allowed for pivoting of billions of fact records across more than 10 dimensions in the sub 100 seconds range. Canned reports were generated on schedules and delivered to subscribed sales and marketing teams.Designed and built ETL and storage solution for managing the data of a type-2 customer dimension with fast data turnover, more than 30 million records, and over 350 columns. The design used in-memory tables, parallelized checksum processing, and partition switching to process millions of nightly changes while maintaining a complete history of all data.

• Automated dozens of manual processes with a centralized application for the tracking, aggregating, and reporting of performance and status indicators across the Bing Geospatial platform. Inputs were collected from multiple remote and on-site production systems in order to track and forecast the progress and performance of content production.• Implemented vendor personnel tracking solution for reporting on the activities, costs, and performance of content production personnel and compute clusters. Timing data was sourced from internal applications, cost information from internal/external ERP systems, and performance data from the compute systems to provide all levels of management with staffing, costing, and forecasting KPIs.• Reduced costs, improved transparency, and reduced rework by creating a specialized physical and virtual asset tracking solution. The web application integrated with shipping carriers and used custom barcodes and scanners to allow personnel worldwide to easily track and manage expensive physical assets and the millions of dollars in proprietary data contained on those assets.

• Architected end-to-end ETL and data warehouse solution for the import, storage, retrieval, and analysis of data for the Kaiser Permanente Colorado region population management tool. Migrated ETL processes from a mixed environment of SAS and Java code to SSIS and SQL Stored Procedures. De-normalized, simplified, and optimized database schema to appropriately suit its new role as the primary tool for storing and aggregating patients’ medical history. • Installed, configured, and administered two clustered SQL Server environments and six standalone servers. Migrated SQL Server 2000 directly to 2008 R2, saving time and resources over the original plan for a transition point at SQL Server 2005. Performed upgrades and updates to 87 DTS packages to SSIS, numerous batch and script files, and stored procedures with approximately 17,000 lines of dynamic SQL code.• Implemented log shipping for a warm standby server, PowerShell scripted DNS failover, comprehensive database maintenance and backup plans, HIPPA & SOX security audits, and record-level audits of access to personal health information. Created first DBA handbook with standards, procedures, scripts, and reports to help ease future tasks.
