I've been fortunate to acquire an extraordinarily broad set of executive leadership skills and experiences over the years I've served in the high-tech and internet industry (CV Summary below). Starting with an avionics position in the Air Force, I came up the ranks in my family wireless telecommunications business, ultimately leading company growth through mergers and partnerships to a national presence, and a multi-million dollar exit to Nextel/Sprint (now T-Mobile).I later became involved in private and public education through my children's schools, igniting a passion for education reform. Since then, I've found ways to leverage my strategic and technology skills to address the barriers that prevent youth living in poverty from successfully completing their education and going on to be thriving, contributing members of their communities. Rainwater Renewal Foundation and Founding Futures were both organizations formed to marry research, technology, and targeted projects to learn what works and what doesn't work in the social service arena.Through failures and successes, I learned that the real "holy grail" for solving chronic social problems rested in our ability as individual organizations serving people (and communities) to work in true cross-sector, multi agency collaboration. No doubt, the evidence suggests this has been largely out of our reach - until recently! Practitioners across the globe are beginning to use social enterprise - earned income strategies and business best practices for social gain - to create dramatic, lasting results. Add to these approaches, a collaborative and coordinated cross-sector strategy focused on common, shared goals, and we have a recipe for finally achieving truly transformative community wide outcomes.
