Library Information Assistant
As a library information assistant with The New York Public Library, I provide circulation/reference service and instruction to library patrons of all ages, regarding print, media and digital resources. Additionally, I perform community outreach to promote and increase public participation and use of library services as well as plan and deliver library programs for children and young adults teens.
Marketing And Public Relations Assistant
As a freelance marketing and public relations assistant, I assisted Rock Inked, Inc. with an ongoing children’s book series. During my project, I created a press release for the client’s newest title and distributed the document and a pitch of the book and author to various media outlets; this would lead to great opportunities like securing author interviews through podcasts and social media book giveaway initiatives. I often contacted other institutions like libraries, schools, and children’s museums to help schedule author visits. In addition to this, I also reached out to appropriate companies that would help advertise the title to extend the book’s reach; this is when I would develop content that those advertising companies would use and share with their audience. To make sure everyone on the team was on the right page, I updated the marketing summary regularly and, toward the end of my time there, I shared a monthly report with the author and their team. Finally, I would attend virtual author events for the company; I enjoyed this aspect of the role, whether I played a small or large part, it was great to see everyone’s hard work come together in successful events.
Marketing Intern
As an intern in the Edelweiss Ascend summer initiative, I was paired with Rock Inked, Inc.—one of the program’s partner organizations (creative management and marketing company). With Rock Inked, I was in charge of spearheading four projects. The first consisted of pitching and driving acquisition of a book (A Great Moral and Social Force: A History of Black Banks by Timothy Todd) into libraries across New York as well as Richmond, VA; Boley, OK; Chicago, IL, and Detroit, MI—cities with origins of black banks. This project included reaching out to 100+ libraries. The second project was creating content and handling social media marketing initiatives for one of Rock Inc.’s clients. The third project consisted of constructing an overview and pitch for a client’s manuscript and driving the marketing campaign, in order to aid the client in getting said manuscript picked up by a publisher.
Teacher Assistant
In my role at Eden II Programs, I assisted teachers by providing specialized attention to students in both individual and group sessions. Particularly, if students needed help with reading, I was most enthusiastic to help them in this area, due to my passion for books and literature. I additionally aided students with classroom learning, task execution and language expansion as well as led educational games and group activities.
Educator
As educator at Snug Harbor Cultural Center & Botanical, I led students from grades K-12 through tours of Snug Harbor and the NY Chinese Scholar's Garden and facilitated 90-minute on-site classes for students. I also ran 45-minute off-site (in-classroom) sessions for students at their schools. Series/session classes included subjects in science, history and social studies.
Education And Training Intern
Grace institute is a non-profit organization that is dedicated to training women and helping them with job employment. As education and training intern at Grace Institute, I assisted in planning weekly employment placement events for women ages 18-64, alongside the Education Coordinator. I additionally provided administrative support to four instructors in the Education department.
Student Intern
Global Connection’s mission is to foster intercultural understanding and to build a strong, inclusive community across cultures through service, education, advocacy and partnerships. As an intern with Global Connections—Centre County, I met with international students (of Penn State) and their families and helped them to assimilate into the community and culture through various programs; including: becoming a conversation partner, securing materials for the International Children's Festival, preparing for Cultural Luncheons, and finally hosting several intercultural book club meetings.
Visitor Service Assistant
This was a seasonal position that I held for the summers of 2010 and 2011. I was in charge of recording visitor statistics, assisting with opening and closing procedures, maintained the information desk by answering to visitor inquires, fielding phone calls, scheduling group tours, and conducted site and walk tours.
