My responsibilities include managing the day-to-day functions of Farm Bureau’s livestock commodities through policy development and implementation. Managing the livestock commodities has allowed me to work closely with and be the voice for farmers and ranchers on issues affecting their livelihood. I oversee any issues related to animal health and welfare. I assisted in the establishment and served as the secretary for the Florida Animal Care Trust (FACT) which is an alliance of animal agriculture stakeholders opposing the negative connotation brought onto animal agriculture by animal rights activists. Additionally, I am currently overseeing the development of the Livestock Education and Certification for Agriculture Law Enforcement (LECALE) program. The LECALE program is a weeklong training course focused on educating law enforcement on generally accepted industry approved practices.I served as the County Alliance for Responsible Environmental Stewardship (CARES) coordinator from February 2009 until March 2015. Over the past 6 years, I grew the CARES program statewide with additional 650 producers being designated as a “Farmer who CARES”. Due to the extensive growth of the CARES program, I am currently assisting and training the new coordinator to specifically perform the duties of running the program. While serving as the CARES coordinator, I collaborated with Farm Bureau’s partners to educate agriculture producers on the importance of implementing environmentally sound best management practices (BMPs) on their operations. I have organized multiple producer BMP workshops throughout Florida, where we were able to reach more than 500 producers. The CARES program also recognizes producers who are actively practicing these environmental BMPs on their farms and ranches. Through my role at Farm Bureau, I have built strong relationships among farmers and ranchers in the state who I can associate with because of my upbringing in the agriculture community.
