I have been Jefferson County Assessor since January 8, 2019, having been elected in November, 2018.The Assessor's office employs about 60 people and is responsible for determining the market value of every property in the county.I have been a real estate agent for 20 years, working for a number of well-known brokerages. In addition to real estate, I am also a communications professional with experience in journalism, media relations and corporate communications. I have worked extensively in online journalism and print journalism as a full-time reporter, full-time editor and as a freelance reporter.Worked at The Colorado Independent from January 2010 until April 2013, first as a freelance reporter, then part-time staff reporter, then full-time reporter. Was named editor in January 2011.Was a weekly outdoor/adventure columnist at the late Rocky Mountain News for several years, where I also wrote frequent features and travel articles. Prior to the Rocky, I did similar work at MSN's local Denver site until it was closed.As a freelance journalist my articles have appeared in The Denver Post, The Washington Post, The San Francisco Chronicle, The Portland Oregonian, Snow Country Magazine, Huffington Post, The Denver Business Journal, The Seattle Weekly and many other newspapers and magazines.In corporate communications, I've written executive speeches, product white papers, client newsletters, and press releases for such companies as Ford, General Electric, IBM, Comcast, Exabyte, and StorageTek.Was director of public relations at Fortune 400 technology corporation Intelligent Electronics.I've also been co-owner of a newspaper and press secretary to a United States Senator.
