Recently retired, Scot joined UL in 2008 after 6 years at Medtronic during which time he was Vice President of Quality, designing and deploying their Lean Sigma initiative. Scot’s Medtronic role expanded to VP of Global Business Solutions, responsible for corporate processes such as operations, facilities, customer centers, compliance, supply chain, as well as Lean Sigma. Scot helped bring Lean Sigma to healthcare clients including engaging with The Johns Hopkins Hospital. Before joining Medtronic Scot held various engineering and operations management positions during his 21 years with GE. Scot helped develop and teach both Lean and Six Sigma and was one of GE’s first Certified Master Black Belts. Scot’s positions at GE included Director of Quality for Asia and General Manager of Compliance and Regulatory Affairs.During Scot’s initial time at UL he was the Global Engineering and Lab Operations leader, responsible for the engineering judgment and laboratory testing of over 150,000 product safety projects per year. Applying continuous improvement behaviors across UL, the team cut turnaround times in half while improving customer net promoter score more than 30 points. Scot ran UL’s Continuous Improvement client facing division and was SVP of Operations. Currently as the CTO Scot is responsible for R&D, Quality and Lean Sigma. Scot is a trained and frequent speaker regarding Shingo enterprise excellence leadership culture. Additionally, Scot is a member of the President’s Council of the Chicago Museum of Science and Industry; he graduated from Bucknell University with a BS in Chemical Engineering.UL’s mission is to promote safe living and working environments; assisting clients and employees with their continuous improvement culture champions this mission.
