The role continued to expand as Avanti’s business evolved and I was formally appointed as the Director of Network Operations and Software Development in 2008. I was promoted to CTO and member of the Executive Committee in September 2019, reporting to the CEO.I lead all technical and operational functions globally, which account for over half the business, with responsibility for satellite and network operations, customer support, software engineering, and corporate IT, with a key focus on continued service levels whilst transforming the business.My department is comprised of 8 direct reports and 100 highly skilled engineers organised into 6 teams across EMEA, with responsibility for the timely and cost-effective delivery of data services to defence, industry, and carrier customers.Whilst in role key achievements include:- Brought HYLAS 3 and HYLAS 4 satellites and supporting ground infrastructure into service, increasing capacity by 66%.- An expanded terrestrial network for global satellite fleet operations, enabling circa 10% additional revenue in 2021.- Created value of USD5m in 2020 through patented technology that rationalises usage of network capacity.- Design and development of a high performing ITIL compliant operations support system (OSS) and led an associated process enhancement programme. Reduced operational expenditure by 30%.- Transitioned services across leased capacity and Avanti’s commercial satellites. (HYLAS1, HYLAS2, HYLAS2B, and HYLAS4).- Worked several patent applications to grant, driving innovation and creating value for Avanti.
