What you see depends on what you are looking for ✨ .CONFIRMATION BIASAnyone can say anything about anybody. Just because someone says something does not mean it is true. Receivers of false information should avoid confirmation bias. Confirmation bias is important because it may lead people to hold strongly to false beliefs or to give more weight to information that supports their beliefs than is warranted by the evidence. Decision making disasters can be avoided by recognizing 'confirmation bias' and thoroughly considering ulterior motives of all parties involved. For example, in HR scenarios, decisions for termination are sometimes made even when fallacious conclusions are reached. Despite flawed decision making processes, the separated individual usually has no recourse as HR can do as they wish (due to at-will employment laws) or in some cases, as they are told. Leadership with ulterior motives can yield strong influence on HR staff, all of whom may be guilty of confirmation bias and perpetuating false narratives.FALSE NARRATIVES A false narrative is a story that someone perceives as being true but has little basis in reality. These stories can be challenging for others to let go of and, if they are about ourselves, can often be detrimental to our relationships and even our careers. Someone who fears or believes something has or will happen may worry that the worst has already happened. This leads to the creation of false narratives.
