About Scott Beeman
My research goals are two-fold: (i) to devise non-invasive magnetic resonance (MR)-based methods to quantify tissue microstructure and function in vivo and (ii) to apply these techniques to advance the scientific understanding of health and disease. To this end, I leverage my ~18 years of training in biophysical modelling of MR signals, MR pulse sequence design, and MR contrast agent synthesis to design rational, purpose-built MR protocols that extract objective and quantitative physiologic information. Examples of quantitative MR-based metrics include cell size (based on restricted 1H proton diffusion within a cell), tissue perfusion and oxygenation (based on the effects of flow and paramagnetic oxygen on 1H longitudinal relaxation, respectively), and renal filtration capacity (based on the binding of an MR-visible contrast agent targeted at the kidney glomerulus).
Listed skills include Mri, Biomedical Engineering, In Vivo, Neuroscience, and 12 others.
