I have more than 32 years of experience helping clients to achieve their goals, focusing on transactional tax planning, mergers & acquisitions, income tax planning, estate planning and tax controversy defense. Working as part of a team representing clients, I participate with a team of other professionals to structure a variety of transactions to minimize the burden of federal and state taxes. I have worked with clients and their advisors to bring tax efficiency to mergers, acquisitions, dispositions, fund formations, workouts and debt restructuring, inbound and outbound investments, compensation planning and the use of tax pass-through entities such as partnerships, limited liability companies and S corporations. I have assisted clients in all stages of their life cycle from development through growth and into maturity. I have also worked closely with families developing strategies to pass significant wealth to younger generations in a tax efficient manner, using sophisticated techniques involving pass-through entities and trusts. With an eye toward wealth succession, I have been able to introduce estate tax saving concepts to entrepreneurs while developing plans for a liquidity event, as well. Inevitably, estate planning also requires participation in estate administration matters, and I have guided families through the sometimes difficult process here as well. Before entering private practice, I began my career as a trial attorney for the United States Department of Treasury, representing the Commissioner of Internal Revenue before federal courts. I returned to Szaferman Lakind several years ago after spending six years in Philadelphia directing the Tax and Estates Practice for a major Center City law firm. I try to bring to every client the wealth of experience that I have accumulated over the years, an enthusiasm to efficiently and effectively deploy a strategy to achieve the goals of each of my clients and to provide counsel as well as advice.
