Managing conflict and often complicated situations in order to achieve the most effective outcome and then generating the relevant reports required. - Respond to calls for service to a range of incidents and manage them at the scene using excellent communication and problem-solving skills. Identify vulnerabilities and manage these through the appropriate multi agency pathways available – always offering appropriate support and guidance where available. - Create compliant reports in line with force policy and procedure and ensuring timely communication with victims to convey outcomes within a 28-day timeframe as per national guidelines. During the initial input of the report, I make a risk assessment to decide the priority in which the case needs to be progressed and this is based upon threat, harm, and risk as well as the seriousness of the investigation. - Engage with a diverse group of people to answer a range of queries, log grievances and to obtain feedback. Always upholding the organisation’s values and ensuring to build a positive rapport with customers to show understanding and again, prove a good reputation for the organisation. - Directly coach new officers, ensuring their operational competency and system proficiency, and review all submitted work for compliance and target achievement. I also often am the first point of contact for their welfare needs, employment concerns or any queries surrounding the job role and responsibilities.- Directly engage with internal staff members, including those in senior management roles relating to a variety of matters; evidencing my ability to use excellent communication skills within a diverse organisation with multiple layers. -
Call Handler (999/101)Durham Constabulary Jan 2020 - Apr 2021Durham, England, United KingdomAnswered 101/999 calls for service within the police control room often engaging with those in crisis/vulnerable situations and providing necessary advice, support and guidance whilst generating an incident log, dynamically risk assessing the situation and determining the most appropriate police response.- I used a range of communication styles to engage with the callers to obtain information which I accurately inputted onto an electronic incident log. I had to assess the threat, harm and risk of the incident and correctly grade it with the most proportionate police response thus, requiring competency in risk management and accountability. - Often managed complex and challenging calls from persons in mental health crisis or those in the most volatile situations, ensuring that I communicated in the most effective way to try and promote engagement via telephone; to fully address the risk and response required by police and/or other services. - Collaborated with emergency, local authority services and other partners where required; to ensure the best interests of the caller were met where a mutli-agency approach would be appropriate. - Trained new staff in a live environment, conducting real-time call assessments, delivering prompt feedback, and addressing issues to enhance their performance and training needs.- At 17 years old, became the youngest call handler in the force, overcoming doubt and concerns surrounding age by promoting inclusivity and showcasing a belief in my capabilities to excel within the role.
