ALAS is the largest lawyer-owned mutual insurance company in the United States. Its only business is insuring premier law firms. Founded in 1979, ALAS now comprises 222 firms with nearly 70,000 lawyers working throughout the United States and abroad. Scott is the Sr. VP of the Member Services department that is responsible for the underwriting of all ALAS policies, including lawyers' professional liability policies,, and supplemental coverage policies that address management liability exposures that arise from a variety of issues such as firm governance and financial health. Other areas of responsibility include identifying and meeting with prospective firms interested in joining ALAS and then underwriting those firms to determine whether to provide an offer of membership. Scott works closely with firms to address their coverage and risk management needs when they consider mergers or large lateral acquisitions.In addition to these day-to-day responsibilities, Scott frequently meets with law firm leaders around the country to discuss and address their concerns and provide advice on a variety of firm governance and leadership issues, including practice group management. He has served as a moderator and panelist on numerous programs addressing law firm management issues. He also provides advice to ALAS firms when involved in mergers or lateral hiring and underwriting.In 2009, Scott completed the Executive Education Program at Harvard Business School.
