In this role, I was responsible for providing technical, strategic and organizational leadership to help sustainably grow Bay West's commercial and local/state municipal client base. I directly supported executive leadership, sales and marketing, and business development planning/implementation. Practice areas ranged from Brownfield redevelopment, to supporting the energy and transportation markets, to specialized munitions and industrial waste cleanups, to customized health and safety and compliance solutions, to emergency response services.

I ran Braun's environmental consulting group of more than 100 team members and had overall P&L responsibility for management of the group, including business planning and development, service area and geographic expansion, and front-line support of the company’s safety, quality and risk management programs. In a little over a year, I was promoted to serve as an Officer of the company and participate on the corporate Strategic Management Team, Decision Management Team, Business Development Management Team, Quality Management Team and Braun Intertec University program. While at Braun, I also facilitated several Client Focus Teams, helped evaluate and recruit talented professionals to the organization, established teaming agreements with strategic business partners, created procedures for successfully integrating new business acquisitions, helped champion the company's renewable energy, telecommunications and utilities market sectors, and promoted internal and external branding of the company through weekly newsletters, blog posts and the use of social media.

While with Tetra Tech, an international environmental engineering firm, I helped facilitate growth of commercial market sector clients across the U.S. and managed divisional operations in Colorado, Minnesota, New Mexico and Idaho. I was responsible for developing and implementing annual operating plans and business development plans, for profit and loss management, acquisition integration support, and general management of a staff of 60. I functioned both as a technical resource and as a resource manager for my clients.

The EcoTuesday group met monthly for the purposes of sharing ideas and information related to sustainability in our community. It was a diverse group of individuals with backgrounds ranging from engineering to economics and finance to agriculture.

The SWCD is a political subdivision of the State of Minnesota established to carry out a program for the conservation, use and development of soil, water and related resources. Supervisors provide leadership and governance, develop policy, and work with multi-stakeholder teams to establish long range plans and budgets. In this capacity, I was invited to participate on several key, collaborative planning efforts within Scott County including the 2030 Comprehensive Plan Update and the development of the County’s Natural Resource Area protection plan. I was also asked to support the state-level Minnesota Association of SWCDs as a representative on the Legislative and Education Committees. It was my privilege to be part of the Scott County SWCD when it was named the SWCD of the Year at the state convention in 2007.

While at Summit, I was a Project Manager, Department Manager, and eventually a Principal of the company. My specialty areas included property transfer support, compliance, brownfield cleanups, and non-petroleum site investigations and cleanups.

Twin City Testing was a regional/national environmental, geotechnical and laboratory firm based in St. Paul. I managed non-petroleum site assessment and remediation projects, as my background was in hazardous waste management at the time.

Hired on as a science writer, but within three months I was managing hazardous waste cleanups all over the country. This job taught me the basics of consulting on an accelerated schedule, and the value of maintaining a "can do!" spirit.
