With more than 30 years of experience as a serial entrepreneur, hands-on Structural Engineer and technology enthusiast, I have succeeded in combining these skills and experience to grow a UK structural engineering firm into an international group of businesses spanning the UK and Europe. Within four years, we’ve achieved a 79% revenue growth with a 200% leap in gross profit due to a firm focus on business restructuring and major contract wins in growth sectors worldwide, including in the Americas, the Middle East and Africa. Having started the business in my own home in 1991, within 10 years it had grown into the leading trade supplier of mezzanine flooring in the UK, with a turnover of over £10m per annum. I sold this Company in 2006 to concentrate on other commercial interests, including the launch and development of an industry-unique commercial management solution that enables engineering firms to pass on cost- and time-saving to clients, giving these firms and their customers a competitive edge. During my tenure here, I was selected by the UK national government to provide independent consultation on design code standards and practice for safe loading classifications in the installation of industrial platforms (Digest 437).

Keith Hancock Structures were the “original” Mezzanine floor Company in the UK and Europe that utilised the technique of galvanised secondary joists with cleats into hot rolled main beams. This practice became the defining feature of modern day lightweight structural steel mezzanine flooring. Started out as a Senior Structural Designer and moved into technical sales to become the National Sales Manager, responsible for business development and team sales training. Personally, achieved sales targets of £5m per year.It was at KHS that I was inspired by wise words from my 'on-the-job' mentor to write my first mezzanine-specific structural design software. This, I believe, was the first piece of software dedicated to the mezzanine industry anywhere in the world. These early programmes helped increase the productivity of the design and proposals departments, realised as quicker production turnaround times, resulting in more economical solutions for clients.

Joined Horward Newby Associates Consulting Engineers from technical college, training as a draughtsman and for three years, benefiting from one-on-one training with a highly qualified Chartered Structural Engineer. My engineering projects encompassed, amongst many things, design for bridges, industrial sheds, retaining walls and buildings.It was here that I was inspired to write my first computer programmes for basic steel element design.
