I am an advocate with Ampersand Advocates. I called to the Scottish Bar in 2022 as a Lord Hope Scholar.I have experience in a wide range of commercial, private and public law litigation. In the course of devilling, I was involved in a variety of complex and high-value cases including commercial disputes, clinical and professional negligence claims, regulatory, human rights and constitutional law cases. I have a particular interest in the latter and, whilst devilling, worked on a number of high-profile judicial review cases including a legislative competence challenge to an Act of the Scottish Parliament, a challenge to Scotland’s Census 2022 and the first removal of a judicial office holder under the Courts Reform (Scotland) Act 2014.I have assisted with the preparation of cases before the Sheriff Courts, the Sheriff Appeal Court, the Court of Session, the UK Supreme Court and the European Court of Human Rights.Before calling to the Bar, as a solicitor and then associate with a well-known litigation firm in Edinburgh, I gained substantial experience of appearing in court and regularly conducted proofs, debates and complex opposed motions including for interdict. I also gained experience in fatal accident inquiries and various forms of alternative dispute resolution, including arbitration, adjudication and mediation.I have particular interests in contract law, clinical and professional negligence, media law, private client litigation and judicial review.I also have an interest in legal education. Since 2021, I have tutored in Commercial Law, Public Law and Individual Rights, and Evidence at the University of Edinburgh.

The Jk Mason Institute For Medicine, Life Sciences And The Law

As a summer intern, my remit was predominantly to enhance undergraduate and postgraduate student outreach for the Mason Institute for Medicine, Life Sciences and the Law - an interdisciplinary research hub based within the School of Law at the University of Edinburgh. This included designing, developing and driving a sustainable framework for future student-led events and symposia for the benefit of other peer students under the auspices of this academic institution.My responsibilities included working under the stewardship of Professor Graeme Laurie, Professor of Medical Jurisprudence at the University of Edinburgh, in helping with background research into proportionate models of research governance and interoperable uses of data in order to prepare a brief for a Wellcome Trust Senior Investigator Award application. Additionally, I took direct responsibility for updating the Institute's marketing, enhancing web and social media design, including the output of the Institute's Twitter feed and taking responsibility for setting up a 'Student Zone' on the website (and served as inaugural editor), enabling students with a forum for publishing blogs or commentaries on contemporary issues in medicine, law and the life sciences.Additionally I worked collaboratively with colleagues in the Mason Institute and the wider University to organise a number of events to encourage outreach within the wider University and potentially beyond, including a public debate on assisted dying in Scotland and a complimentary arts symposium which considers how the arts can provoke and stimulate debate in bioethics and the life sciences. The organisation of these events included a great deal of marketing and public relations experience.This internship was facilitated by Employ.ed on Campus at the University of Edinburgh, and I chose to specifically develop core competencies in: Networking, Working Collaboratively and Harnessing Opportunities.
