I am an award-winning journalist with deep experience as on-camera talent, reporter, anchor, writer and producer, in television news, digital and social media, radio and podcasts, print, and more.In a career that spans four decades, I have traveled to all 50 states, reported from a dozen countries, and interviewed the famous and infamous--from Warren Buffett to Bernie Madoff. My investigations have exposed corruption and malfeasance in business and government. They have also helped to spark change, like when America's oldest gun manufacturer agreed to fix millions of allegedly defective rifles following our team's reporting. I was among the earliest to report on the growth of private prisons in the U.S., and on the explosion of student loan debt that is dragging down the financial health of an entire generation. The annual measure of state competitiveness I created in 2007--"America's Top States for Business"--is closely watched in the economic development world, and widely quoted. Amazon said it considered our findings in deciding where to locate its much-heralded HQ2 project, which went to six-time Top State Virginia. I've covered historic natural disasters, epic corporate scandals, and a feature or two along the way.After 25 years with CNBC--which I helped launch in 1989--I headed west to California in 2014 to launch my own production company.
