There are many excellent technicians out there, but few leaders. The leaders may not even be the best technicians, but the leader understands why you are doing something. I strive to be a leader. The leader asks the question, “Why are you doing this project?”. The technician asks, “How do you want to do this project?” The leader looks at the bigger picture and makes decisions based upon what the project is supposed to accomplish, rather than, “My contract says to do this.” The leader will look at the same contract and stop and talk to the client, to clarify what may be a mistake the technician blindly follows, because the contract says to. I strive to understand why someone does something. The leader who understands why is a partner for your success.
