A challenging and diverse role involving the supervision of eight staff analysing a wide range of samples for an even wider range of elements.

Supervised nine staff (seven chemists and two clerical staff) in the analysis of 200 samples per day from throughout the Asia Pacific region in a high pressure, time sensitive environment. Achievements:Increased analysis turnaround time to 98% on-time from the original 92% on-time by replacing and retraining staff and streamlining the quality system. Leading to meeting and exceeding KPI goals for a continuous three years for the first time in the laboratory's history. Increased laboratory efficiency by upgrading, maintaining and troubleshooting the local LIMS.Added significantly to the bottom line by identifying, recommending and implementing cost saving opportunities.Achieved improved electronic security for the Asia Pacific region by implementing laboratory computer security controls thereby avoiding a potential multi-million dollar security breach.Maintained the health and safety performance while supervising laboratory closure including redeployment of laboratory equipment and building hand-over.Produced and maintained 6 sigma accuracy and reduced errors (from 4% to 0.2%) through the implementation of a combined computerised and manual check system in conjunction with improved quality system documentation.

Supervised five staff in the analysis of plant samples and the formulation and correction of lubricants for Australia and New Zealand. Achievements:Measured and improved the performance of the laboratory by creating and implementing KPI's.Passed an external audit and complied with ISO 17025 by revitalising and revamping the local, previously neglected, quality system Reduced headcount by one and thus saved ~$100k/year by delivering the Quality Assurance Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) on time and under budget by leading the Asia Pacific team in the design, testing and implementation for the global organisation.Acted as the subject matter expert for LIMS within the Asia pacific region.Reduced blend failures by leading the troubleshooting team assigned to the task.

Procured laboratory consumables and maintained appropriate stock levels as required by the laboratory. Also facilitated the purchase of new laboratory equipment and negotiated service contracts for the Quality Assurance Laboratory and the Technical Service Laboratory. Achievements:Reduced waste and saved ~$10k per year by creating a system of purchasing controls that ensured emergency (high cost) orders were not required.Reduced chemical costs by ~$25k per year by investigating and implementing alternative solvents used in common processes.Reduced overall costs through negotiating with various suppliers.

Supervised three employees (one chemist and two technicians) in the analysis of 100 samples per day while located in a remote, isolated mining operation. Achievements:Enabled the promotion of one of the chemists to laboratory manager through training and mentoring the individual.Clarified roles, responsibilities and procedures through the creation of a quality system for the laboratory.
