Principal Engineer
Responsible for working with business stakeholders, product management and senior leadership to design solutions capitalizing on opportunities or solving problems. Emphasis on developing and releasing the "minimally viable" approach, measuring its success and iterating! Lead the teams that execute on these plans, including personally contributing (as often as possible in ways that maximally improve efficiency for everyone involved).Process-wise, use what works from agile and kanban. The goal is to make it easy to deploy frequently, with high quality and minimal downtime. That involves planning for sensible automated testing, continuous integration (TeamCity, at RetailMeNot), "slow-roll" scripted deployments and more. Technically, this involves work against a wide variety of technology, platforms and middleware. RetailMeNot is a heavy consumer of Amazon Web Services technology and I personally work with EC2, Lambda, Kinesis, DynamoDB, S3, SQS, IAM, Cloudwatch and more, Much of my backend programming work is in Java, with some Python and PHP thrown in. Front-end work involves JavaScript (of course), CSS, LESS, Handlebars, RequireJS and a zillion modules. Database work mostly with MySQL and MongoDB.
