In my role as Staff Director, I was responsible for the day-to-day operation of Y4Y. I was tasked with drawing up grant proposals (both for project and core funding) and maintaining relationships with point people at grant-giving organizations. Overall, I played a key role in obtaining $223,000 in project and core funding from Canadian Heritage and the Secretariat for Relations with English-Speaking Quebecers. I also spent much of my time co-ordinating and supervising the activities of our volunteer base in various work teams and sub-committees. As a part of my job, I also accompanied the President to government functions, liaised with the staff of other non-profits serving either youth or the English-speaking minority, and helped forge partnerships with key stakeholders in order to draw up project proposals. I also managed the Y4Y office by answering phone and email queries, facilitating meetings for the Board of Directors and the Executive Committee, keeping track of the budget and expenses, and organizing the work schedule of our President.

My responsibilities as a TA included meeting with students to provide feedback and guidance in drafting their term papers, helping them to understand course material they found difficult, and grading essays, exams, and digital presentations. I was hired as an ESL instructor for a firm that sends its teachers to other companies requiring language instructors for its employees. Many of the classes I taught were private courses for individuals, while others included 6 to 8 people. In this capacity, I was given complete freedom to design my own courses, devise my own lesson plans, and arrange my own class schedule with clients. My students varied widely in their knowledge of English, ranging from minimal abilities to near bilingual proficiency. My lessons included instruction in grammar, vocabulary, and pronunciation, and emphasized in-class practice through exercises and frequent dialogue.

At this job, I gained experience working in an accounting firm. My tasks included giving clerical assistance to accountants who were conducting audits of clients' companies, doing basic research on questions regarding clients' files, engaging in data entry, and providing help with various tasks around the office.
